March 15, 2010 – CDOI Preliminary Planning Meeting- Bronzeville Visitor Information Center
411 East 35th Street, Chicago, Illinois 60653 – www.bviconline.info
Panel – Harold L. Lucas (Black Metropolis), Beatrix Davis (BTR Financial and Black Wall Street), Jeanine Robinson (Water Tower Financial Partners, LLC and Black Wall Street), and Bola Delano(Executive Director of Economic and Community Development w/CMAP)
Subject: CDI Project –
Black Wall Street and Black Metropolis Convention & Tourism Council (BMC&TC) have partnered with Chicago Metropolitan Agency Planning (CMAP2040), in an effort to work together regarding various community projects affiliated with the organizations. CMAP is the official regional planning organization for the northeastern Illinois counties of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will.  By state and federal law, CMAP is responsible for developing GO TO 2040, metropolitan Chicago's first truly comprehensive regional plan.  To be implemented starting in fall 2010, the plan will be based on a diverse, coordinated set of strategies to address projected population growth of 2.8 million new residents by 2040, which has significant implications for transportation, housing, economic development, open space, the environment, and other quality-of-life issues.
One of the programs offered by CMAP is named CDI. The Corridor Development Initiative is an innovative participatory planning process that helps residents understand issues such as density, affordable housing, architectural design, and the true cost of development. Through the CDI, the community develops a distinct set of development priorities that can guide community leaders as they plan for future development. The CDI process allows the community to consider various development options, as well as explore how their ideas might pan out on the ground. In partnership with the Metropolitan Planning Council, CMAP helps to facilitate the CDI process in communities around the region.
In the March meeting, we introduced the program to various business owners, business association members, and community leaders. The result of our initial meeting is we chose 3 corridors to be included in the initial planning.
Ø 75th Street – Dan Ryan to the Lake
Ø 35th Street – Shields to Lake
Ø 79th Street – Exchange
The community MUST be collaboratively involved in order for these projects to be successful.
Future meeting times are to be determined, once CMAP returns with information needed regarding this projects. This is very exciting!
